Product Description
Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. Red Faction: Guerrilla re-defines the limits of destruction-based game-play with a huge open-world, fast-paced guerrilla-style combat, and true physics-based destruction.Customer Reviews
3 1/2I'd actually give it a 3 1/2 star rating. Game is fun and definitely worth buying if you buy it used.
A Total Surprise
With the sub-par, one-trick ponies that is most of the games of the past two years, I was rather surprised when my rental of Red Faction Guerrilla turned into a purchase.
This game is very similar in concept to Just Cause: 2. You basically run around causing chaos, blowing sh** up, then fighting for your life as you head towards safety.
But somehow this low-budget game seems to have done it so much better. The destructable environments are by far the greatest piece of this game. Bringing down a two-story building with nothing more than a sledgehammer is unbelievably satisfying. Even more, as the building reaches it's critical state, the controller starts to rumble slightly in your hands - you can feel the tremor in the ground as the building prepares to fall. Furthermore, the physics of the game allow for some tremendously entertaining/hilarious/jaw-dropping scenes where exploding vehicles ricochet off of cliff faces, or debris from a falling building spills down a mountainside. I find myself smiling with child-like abandon at the never-ending wave of destruction.
And that's really where Red Faction: Guerrilla shines. It's just unending destruction, chaos, and mile-a-minute excitement. Wrap that up in a game that can easily last 30+ hours, and you've got a recipe for good, simple, long-lasting fun. Sure I'll probably never finish it - I'm sure I'll get tired of it long before I finish the story, but who cares?! It cost $20 bucks. If I get 10 hours of entertainment out of it (I've gotten much more than that already) then I've already had better ROI than many of the "blockbuster games" of the past two years.
For the current price, this game is WELL worth it.
Smashing Good Fun!!!
I'm always happy to find games that hold my imagination!! I had seen good reviews on this game and as a lover of a FPS, I had to try it. Really like it!! The only downside was the fact that there weren't as many different weapons as I would have liked, but they sure made up for it with a convoy of many vehicles to drive! I LOVED tearing down buildings with the sledgehammer and explosives - and the best part was, they buildings were designed to fall exactly as they would in reality. I'm a 50 year old wife and mother, and I gotta tell ya . . . this game really let me get in touch with my destructive "inner man"!!! Great game . . . hope there's a sequel!!!
Fun
I actually got this game for free when I bought Dark Siders. I did not like the demo for some reason. So, I never considered this as a purchase.
None the less, I recommend this game. It has a definite Crackdown feel to it.
Only the buildings are destroyable. Not the turain. The 1st Red Faction (a first person shooter) allowed you to destroy the land. No big deal, but this is a departure from what Red Faction originally was.
Anyway, I recommend this game.
Fun for the first few hours
This game was fun for about 5 or 6 hours, after that I started to feel like I had seen all it had to offer, except for maybe some different weapons - not enough to motivate me to keep on playing. The same missions over and over just ain't my thing. This is the same reason I quit playing Just Cause. Maybe this is one of those titles that you just pick up and play every once in a while, but I'm the type of gamer who likes to play a game through to it's conclusion before I start another. This open world sandbox style gaming just doesn't do it for me.
