Product Description

Mobile Web Design, a book by industry expert Cameron Moll, provides a web standards approach for delivering content beyond the desktop. Much has been written about mobile devices. Plenty has been written about developing websites for the so-called "standards era" of the web. However, little has been written about the two colliding. This resource aims to fill that void. If you're in a position to develop for, manage, or give advice regarding your organizations foray into a web strategy for mobile devices, then this book is for you. Discover how to deliver web content to mobile devices (nearly 3 billion worldwide). Includes statistics, code samples, and more than 40 screens from actual devices. "Very good and clearly written. Certainly another great reference to help people find their way in the world of the Mobile Web." -Jo Rabin, dotMobi Director & W3C Co-Chair

Customer Reviews

Nice compilation of material now available on the web
This is a nice little snapshot of the mobile world. But so much has happened in the time since this book was originally published that it is out of date. Also - you can find 90% of this book published word for word on the web.

Save your money unless a new edition is published.

Excellent primer or executive level review of the domain
Excellent, fast read, does a good job of explaining the domain of developing web applications focused on Mobile devices.

Eye-opening introduction to mobile web design
Cameron's short but information-packed introduction to mobile web design is a MUST-read for anyone who is considering building mobile sites or applications. Some of the statistics and technology is a bit out of date at this point, but it is still relevant and serves as an eye-opener to just how massive the mobile web is already. I would recommend reading this book as a primer, and then Brian Fling's new book Mobile Design and Development: Practical Concepts and Techniques for Creating Mobile Sites and Web Apps (Animal Guide) to get more of a how-to.

Good for beginners in mobile web design
If you know nothing about the mobile web, this book is good introduction for you.

It is very tiny book, doesn't go too deep, rather cover the basics and offer links to other resources.

After reading of this book you wouldn't be able just go and make perfect mobile web design, but you will be ready to make your first experiments and avoid common mistakes.

Fair introduction
The book is quite short - 102 A5 pages. It doesn't go into too much technical details. In my point of view it will be a good introduction chapter for a book about mobile web design. May be that the target audience is not developers but non-technical people, that will run away when faced bigger one.

There are a lot of links and web references. On one hand it's good, as one can go and investigate further, but book assumes that reader goes and really checks the pages. I buy "physical" books to read them while I'm travelling or when I'm somewhere off-line. Scratching the topic and then referring to a blog just keeps me upset because I can not check it right away. So I had to "re-read" the book, extract all the links that were interesting and check them out later.
